When did Mother's Day get to be so big?
Maybe because I had a huge party with 75 peices on Thursday. But, that still doesn't account for the fact that I did 80 something arrangements on Saturday. The orders were bigger than expected too. We had such a great selection of flowers :Anemones and Roses and Iris and Gerbera and Orchids and Ginger and Anthurium, Tulips, Bells of Ireland, Larkspur, Nigella, Lilies, Dahlias, Hyacinths, Heliconia, Freesia and on and on. I have to say it was a success, but the best part is that there are not anymore of these all out floral holidays until next year. I know it seems like we love this monumental amount of business all at once, but quite honestly, it takes it's toll on us. Yes, yes the cash flow is good, but is it worth it? Maybe yes, maybe no. Yes, we need to roll in the dough once and a while to feel needed and wanted, but when it comes down to the bottom line, there is more to be made on regular consistent business than the all out knock em' out, can we do em' all, take every order, make everyone happy business. Ok, I am complaining a bit, but that is just because I am a bit exhausted. All in all it was good and the team we have here made it a breeze, so I am just going to leave it at that. Thanks Team More Flowers!! And by the way, Happy Anniversary to Jason! 7 Years service to More Flowers!
Single and Such
Thought a few photos of me would help? More Flowers is looking for some new help. We will be having a gradual turnover come summer and fall, so give me a shout if you are interested. Administrative Professionals Day/Week is next week, so don't forget to say thank you with some flowers!! Mother's Day is just around the corner, so if you ordered last year, you will be getting your reminder call around the 1st of May. Yet once again, Spring is in the air in Colorado, and the darned Tulips are practically over. The spring flowers are always better before the actual spring time. So Anemones and Ranunculus are almost gone too. The local greenhouse Iris are still really nice though, and the Rose are coming in from California better than ever. I have my fingers crossed that my local field flowers will be coming this year too. Many of the growers have had hard times and are getting out of the business. Too much competition coming from South America explains the problem. Heating a greenhouse is extremely cost prohibitive in Colorado, in fact, we lost another grower this year right before Valentine's Day. Oddly though, there is a new grower of Orchid Plants that moved into an old Rose growers facility. They have exceptional product, but their survival is really subject to the public buying more Orchid Plants. That is all the news for now...

Valentine's Day Information... please read before placing your order online!
Yesterday, we started our call outs to all the people that ordered Valentine's Day flowers last year. We do this every year, and have such great luck at getting lots of repeat orders, but more importantly, maintain some calm. By getting our orders lined up early, we partially eliminate some of the mayhem at the end, and take care of our regulars! Unfortunately for all of the demand, it pressures our system, the supply, and our ability to fill every last order. Prices MUST go up from February 11th to the 14th. It is the only way for us to make sure that you get what you are used to, abundance, quality, freshness, the best!! Initially we start with a price schedule that is most expensive for delivery on Thursday the 14th of February, and is less costly each day prior to the 14th. It is always better to send the flowers a couple of days earlier anyway, because things are so out of control as we get closer. Plus the deliveries are more timely and the flowers are enjoyed and envied longer. As we get booked up, and the early birds are taken care of, we raise the prices again. So you are rewarded for planning ahead. The price MINIMUMS listed are good for a couple of more days. Monday February 11th,2008- $65 plus tax and delivery Tuesday February 12th,2008- $75 plus tax and delivery Wednesday February 13th,2008- $85 plus tax and delivery Thursday February 14th,2008- $100 plus tax and delivery Roses in Red or White(one dozen mixed with other flowers), anyday February 11th-14th- $125 plus tax and delivery Roses in all other colors(one dozen mixed with orther flowers), anyday February 11th-14th- $110 plus tax and delivery Pick up orders February 11th-13th- $65 plus tax Pick up orders February 14th- $75 plus tax
Valentine's Day is Looming...
Less than three weeks away, Valentine's Day is upon us. Last year for the first time ever, I cut off order taking the day before the 14th. Topped that by putting a sign in the door, that we were not accepting walkins. Please order early, and now is the time. Next week, we will call out to anyone that ordered last year, and give them a reminder to order. The best pricing is between now and the 31st. Once we roll into February, prices start to go up. I am still trying to decide how to price for this year. Seems last year our prices were right on, but due to the huge demand, and the higher costs of doing business this year, I think we will have to raise the prices a bit. Please know, despite what the holiday appears to be to the outsider, Valentine's Day is not the huge money maker that you might think. Ask any flower person in the business, and they will tell you that when it is all said and done, it is a spin your wheels faster week. We usually end up realizing we just worked really really hard for not to much more. The upside is that this is the one time a year that there are so many flower arrangements out there all on the same day. People get to see our work against all the others, and the difference is very clear. So, I like to say that it is the best marketing day of the year. We always get lots of spin off business from what we send out on Valentine's Day. I will be posting pricing here on the blog over the next few days. Please don't wait, call your order in now! Oh, and this is the one time you will hear me say it.... Happy Valentine's Day!!
Rough & Tough
Broken flower stems, mixed up emotions and feelings, reality sets in. What more can I say. This has been one awful month and a half. Nothing to give Thanks for, no one to light candles with, lost lust for flowers, lack of concentration, dreary Christmas, lonely New Years. What the hell, lucky I have time's healing on my side. Smiling for January. Oh, no, the flower business was fine. Sales may be down a tad, but profit was up, oddly enough. And pleased to see some Spring Anemones and Ranunculus. Tulips are just around the corner too. Ugh to Valentine's Day, but if you know me, you know I dread the madness of this outrageous hallmark holiday. Ok, yeah, there is a shot in the arm of cash flow, just enough to make up for the January quiet times. But really, this year, you better get your order in early, and it best be more than $100. I am trying to keep my self busy doing some year end organizing and some early spring cleaning. Throwing out the old crap and trying to neat and tidy the good stuff. Definitely going to try to keep up the bloggery, since I have been super bad at that. Repot the Orchid plants and continue to imagine that I can get them to bloom. Stop using ginger jar vases, more squatty cylinders. Lost yet another local cut flower grower! Maybe paint some more? I don't know about that. How about get some exercise? Nah! A new iMac would be good! Ok, well, I am still not quite there yet. Give me a little more time. I think I will try to write a nice entry next week.

As always the arrangement is as beautiful as ever. Your team does the best work of anyone I have ever known. Please thank them for me. Best of luck to all of you this year and always. Again, thank you for the beautiful work. Rosemary Thanks! Great to meet you too. We are loving the flowers (still). There were many raving comments on them, including from the caterer. The party was in all ways a great success. Hope to see you again soon. Helen Thank you David. The flowers made the room! Everyone was asking about them. The arrangements for the buffet tables were exceptional. The colors for all the arrangements were gorgeous and just absolutely perfect. Thank you thank you! Jen I wanted to say thank you so much for always having the most gorgeously unique arrangements. My boyfriend only uses More Flowers and I always know the flowers are from him the minute I see the arrangement. They certainly stand out from all others and are my absolute favorite. Thank you again, Misty David, I wanted to thank you for getting my order done in the same day for me. You know me, I have a hard time planning ahead. The arrangment was beautiful, as always, but I just wanted to let you know that the flowers did not last like the usually do. This is the first time that one of my arrangments has not lasted at least a week. I removed about 80% of the flowers tonight that were looking, um not so good. I can almost always get at least 2 weeks out of my flowers. I wanted to bring this to your attention and just let you know. But most of all Thank you again for all of the beautiful arangements, you ARE the BEST! Sincerely, Susan Just had to let you know how much I am enjoying the magnificent flowers you delivered yesterday!! You are so amazing and I am always blown away by the beauty and design. MORE FLOWERS makes me SO HAPPY Regards, Colette David, the flowers you provided were beautiful – everyone commented on them and they lasted quite a long time. Thank you again for making a special impact on our event. Dear David, Itzy and I can't express the joy we felt over last weekend. Michelle and Kevin were ecstatic with everything about the wedding. Your flowers were just exactly what you promised- fresh, elegant, well-balanced, and romantic as well as youthful! Michelle was delighted. Without living there, it is hard to get the job done right. After what seemed like a million phone calls between Michelle and I, the wedding went so well. You are a doll to work with, so confident and sweet and competent. To your credit, Scott, of the Flagstaff House Restaurant, took your name. He stated that he hadn't had flowers like that all summer. You made his restaurant look lovelier. We gave some of the arrangements to special friends and took the flowers to the hotel for the Monday brunch. They were even more beautiful that next day, particularly those outside on the terrace. I was just sorry I didn't get to take any home with me. I just can't thank you enough as I always feel flowers make the day. You certainly made mine. You're my kind of florist!!!!! Thank you for everything, Renee
